The Cannon-Clary College of Education offers a major in education studies for students who are interested in the field of education but not in teacher licensure. The program offers a foundation of liberal arts and education core courses, with flexibility for pursuing electives or a minor. This degree program does not lead to licensure.
Students interested in this program should contact the Chair of Teacher Preparation in the Thornton Education Center, suite 130. Students will be assigned an appropriate academic advisor. This major requires the approval of the primary advisor, the Associate Dean of the College of Education, and the Chair of Teacher Preparation.
Graduation requirements include 128 hours with an overall GPA of 2.5 and a 2.5 in the education core and major courses. In addition, all university graduation requirements apply, including completing and passing 45 hours of upper-level coursework. At least one 4000-level class or an approved 3000-level alternate that is designated by the academic advisor is also required. This requirement may be met with a designated capstone course with the program area of focus. A minor is not required but is allowed.
Program Areas: Major courses may include courses from the following programs: Early Childhood/Special Education Integrated (B-K), Elementary Education K-6, Middle Level Education 4-8, Special Education K-12, and secondary licensure areas.
