Liberal Arts: 41 Hours
All majors at Harding are required to complete the 47-hour Liberal Arts program. The following Liberal Arts requirements are met within the content of the major:
- 3 hours of Aesthetics and the Creative Spirit are satisfied in the major.
- MUS 3240 satisfies 3 hours of Self and Society.
Applied Study: 10 Hours
Students will choose between “piano as the primary instrument” or “other primary instrument or voice” to complete the Applied Study portion of the major. Piano as the primary instrument note:
Students must complete 6 semesters of applied piano study at the 1020 and 3020 levels and complete 4 hours of additional applied study. Students whose primary instrument is piano may substitute MUS 3070 for 3 hours of applied study. Other primary instrument or voice note:
Students must complete 4 hours of applied piano study and complete 6 hours of additional applied study at the 1020 and 3020 levels. Note(s):
- Students must take piano every semester for credit until they pass the Piano Proficiency Exam.
- Music major status requires a passing score of 80% or higher on the Theory Entrance Exam or MUS 1700 with a grade of B or higher; and satisfactory performance on the Theory, Keyboard, and Principle Applied Performance Evaluations.
- Music majors must participate in a primary ensemble and MUS 1400-1409 - Music Forum every semester.
- Enrollment in ensembles is not required for credit. If taken for credit, hours will be counted as electives.
Remaining Bible/Electives: 24 Hours
BMIN 3000 is required of all music majors, and satisfies the Bible requirement in the semester it is taken.
