FLAN 5200 - Foreign Language Teaching Methods and Assessment, Grades K-8


This course provides an overview of current theories of second language development in children, age-appropriate K-8 teaching methods and assessment, and different types of program objectives for integrating target language and culture with content areas of the elementary and middle school curriculum. Students will identify and reflect on strategies and resources for planning, technology, assessment, communicative activities, vocabulary and literacy instruction, and program advocacy. The course requirements include the preparation of content-based units that may be implemented in young learner classrooms. This course prepares current or potential educators for careers in the emerging K-12 foreign language environment.

Prerequisite(s): FLAN 4100  or FLAN 5100  and acceptance into a Master's level program in the College of Education or consent of the instructor
