The master’s degree in library/information science is considered the entry-level degree for the profession. Harding University does not offer an undergraduate degree in librarianship but recommends the following plan to students contemplating such a career:
- Develop a broad background in the liberal arts by electing courses in humanities, natural sciences and social sciences.
- Choose a major of particular interest. Libraries search for professionals with a wide range of subject specialties.
- Arrange an advising appointment with the library director to discuss undergraduate course options, library experience opportunities, and accredited graduate schools.
- If school librarianship is the goal, students should take the professional education courses required for certification by the state in which they plan to work.
