Liberal Arts: 47 Hours
All majors at Harding are required to complete 53 hours of Liberal Arts studies. The following Liberal Arts requirements are met within the content of the major:
- Three hours of the Creative Spirit component are met within in the major and counted below.
- Three hours of the Global Perspectives component are met by MUS 324 and counted below.
Required:
Major: 37 Hours
Music major status requires a passing score of 80 percent or higher on the Theory Entrance Exam or MUS 170 with a grade of “B” or higher; and satisfactory performance on the Theory, Keyboard and Principal Applied Performance Evaluations.
- COMM 235 - Audio Production and Recording Credit Hours: 3
- MUS 131 , MUS 132 , MUS 133 , MUS 138 , MUS 141 , MUS 351 , MUS 352 , MUS 353 , MUS 358 , MUS 361 (Majors must participate in a primary music ensemble every semester.)
- MUS 140 - Music Forum (Majors must enroll in and satisfy the requirements every semester.)
- MUS 171 - Theory and Ear Training I Credit Hours: 4
(Leveling for MUS 171, if needed, increases required music hours and decreases elective hours by 3.) - MUS 172 - Theory and Ear Training II Credit Hours: 4
- MUS 271 - Theory and Ear Training III Credit Hours: 4
- MUS 272 - Theory and Ear Training IV Credit Hours: 4
- MUS 321 - Music History I Credit Hours: 3
- MUS 322 - Music History II Credit Hours: 3
- MUS 323 - Music History III Credit Hours: 3
- MUS 324 - World Music Credit Hours: 3
- MUS 330 - Conducting Credit Hours: 1
- MUS 480 - Senior Recital Credit Hours: 0, 1
(must be taken for 1 hour of credit)

Additional applied study: 6 Hours
Six semesters of additional applied study at the 102 and 302 level are required. Students whose primary instrument is piano may substitute MUS 307 for 3 hours of applied study.
Note(s):
Students must take piano every semester for credit until they pass the Piano Proficiency Examination.
