Principal Applied Studies: 7 hours
Private applied instruction is offered in brass, guitar, percussion, piano, strings, voice and woodwinds. Class instruction is offered in guitar, piano and voice. Course prefixes and names are assigned according to the general nature of instruction, e.g. BRS (brass) and PIA (piano). Course may be repeated to meet major requirements.
The Music Department restricts applied enrollment through the music office.
Course fees are charged for private and class instruction. These fees are listed in the Course Fee Schedule of the catalog. They normally are non-refundable after the last day to enroll; refunds must be approved by the department chair.
Students are expected to attend all lessons and rehearsals and to engage in extensive lesson preparation. In addition to lesson and practice activities, all applied students, regardless of major, must attend and perform in a weekly departmental Studio Hour. They are also required to perform on jury examinations every semester except those in which they have performed a full recital.

Leveling for MUS 171 , if needed, increases total hours by 3.
Participation in a choral ensemble every semester, MUS 140 , recital and concert attendance is required.
Students must take piano every semester for credit until they pass the Piano Proficiency Examination.
The student must also present a public, department-sponsored half-recital.
In addition to earning a degree in Music Education, Vocal/Choral, an endorsement in instrumental may be earned.
