COMM 5460 - Film Marketing and Distribution

This course covers the nuts and bolts of making movies and television programs from the point of view of the person with ultimate profit and loss responsibility: the producer. It goes beyond the structure of the industry and focuses on the economics and management issues of different product lines, with emphasis on feature length films and episodic dramas and sitcoms for multiple markets. Students will act as producers, entrepreneurs who constantly monitor popular culture looking for ideas that can be turned into money making properties while minimizing their own risk through creative deal structuring and outside financing.
