ENG 3910-3913 - Writing Nonfiction


This course focuses on the writing of creative nonfiction in the following genres: memoir, biography, travel writing, literary journalism, and lyric; personal, spiritual, and hybrid essays. Students will learn the techniques of creative nonfiction by reading and analyzing essays by major contemporary authors, including Joan Didion, Annie Dillard, John McPhee, David James Duncan, Jo Ann Beard, and others. The majority of class time will be devoted to work-shopping student essays. Workshopped essays will be revised and submitted in a final portfolio.
