COUN 6300 - Introduction to Student Affairs


This course introduces students to the foundational values, beliefs and practices of the profession while examining the integration of student affairs functions in higher education. Student participants will explore various roles student affairs professionals play on college campuses and seek to develop an understanding of institutional cultures and the professional's role within those cultures. The course will also examine various strategies for organizing, staffing, and funding the wide-ranging programs and services designed to facilitate the learning and development of students. Topics include orientation programming, academic support, retention, campus life, academic advising, career guidance, residence life and spiritual development among others.
