Cognitive Neuroscience Major (COGN), BS

The scientific study of how the nervous system mediates cognitive and behavioral effects in the realms of motivation, perception, learning, memory, executive functions, and motor performance. Curriculum in this area investigates the complex interplay between the brain, behavior, and environment. In addition, research in Cognitive Neuroscience explores higher level functions such as language, social cognition, thinking, reasoning, neuropsychology, psychopathology, and cognitive development.

Liberal Arts: 44 Hours
All majors at Harding are required to complete 53 hours of Liberal Arts studies. The following Liberal Arts requirements are met within the content of the major:
- Biology, physical science, and psychology are counted in the hours required for the major.
Major Electives: 18 Hours
Students majoring in Cognitive Neuroscience have the option to either complete the Preprofessional Health Sciences Major or choose 18 hours from the following electives:

- Depending on career goals, elective courses should be carefully selected.
- Premedical students should take SOC 2030 in the liberal arts requirements. They should also select BIOL 3210/3210L or BIOL 3500/3500L , PHYS 2010 and PHYS 2010L , PHYS 2020 and PHYS 2020L , and CHEM 3840 as part of the electives for this major. CHEM 3740/3740L may be substituted for CHEM 2110 . Additional premedical courses would be helpful as time allows, and other classes may be required depending upon the medical schools to which the student applies.
- Some graduate programs in cognitive neuroscience may require more coursework for entry.
- Students must have a 2.5 GPA to graduate from the program. Students who drop below a 2.5 GPA for two consecutive semesters may be dropped from the program.
