Vocal Performance Major (BMVP), BM

Requirements

Liberal Arts: 44 Hours

All majors at Harding are required to complete 53 hours of Liberal Arts  studies. The following Liberal Arts requirements are met within the content of the major:

• Three hours of the Creative Spirit in the Liberal Arts requirements are met within the major and counted below.
• Six hours of Global Perspectives in the Liberal Arts requirements are met within the major and counted below.

Required:

• ENG 2010  or ENG 2020  is still required.

Music Major Core: 36 Hours

Music major status requires a passing score of 80 percent or higher on the Theory Entrance Examination or MUS 1700  with a grade of B or higher; and satisfactory performance on the Theory, Keyboard and Principle Applied Performance Evaluations. Bachelor of Music status requires meeting the technical proficiency and repertoire standards of the BMVP program. If the BMVP standards are not met upon enrollment, the student may be admitted provisionally and must meet the standards by the beginning of the second semester in order to be considered a BMVP candidate.

• MUS 1310-1319 , MUS 1320-1329 , MUS 1410-1419 , MUS 3510-3519 , MUS 3520-3529 , MUS 3610-3619  (Majors must participate in a primary music ensemble every semester.)
• MUS 1400-1409 - Music Forum Credit Hours: (0) (Majors must enroll in and satisfy the requirements every semester.)
• MUS 1710 - Theory and Ear Training I Credit Hours: 4

• (Leveling for MUS 1710, if needed, increases required music hours by 3.)

• MUS 1720 - Theory and Ear Training II Credit Hours: 4
• MUS 3700 - Theory and Ear Training III Credit Hours: 4
• MUS 3710 - Theory and Ear Training IV Credit Hours: 4
• MUS 3210 - Music History I Credit Hours: 3
• MUS 3220 - Music History II Credit Hours: 3
• MUS 3230 - Music History III Credit Hours: 3
• MUS 3240 - World Music Credit Hours: 3
• MUS 3300 - Conducting Credit Hours: 1
• PIA 1010-1019  / PIA 1110  / PIA 2110  (Must be taken 4 times for credit to meet program requirements. Students must take piano every semester for credit until they pass the Piano Proficiency Examination.)

Voice Area: 40 Hours

• One year of a modern foreign language (choose from FR 1010  / FR 1020  or GER 1010  / GER 1020  or ITAL 1010  / ITAL 1020  for a total of 8 hours.
• MUED 3060 - Vocal Pedagogy Credit Hours: 2
• MUS 2130-2139 - Opera Workshop Credit Hours: 0, 1

• (Must be take twice for credit to meet program requirements.)

• MUS 3150 - Diction for Singers Credit Hours: 2
• MUS 3450 - Independent Studio Teaching Credit Hours: 2

• MUS 4430 - Solo Vocal Literature Credit Hours: 2

• (Must be taken 2 times for 1 hour of credit and 2 times for 2 hours of credit to meet program requirements.)

• VOI 3020-3029 - Private Voice Lessons Credit Hours: 1, 2

• (Must be taken 4 times for 2 hours of credit to meet program requirements.)

Remaining Bible/Electives: 8 Hours
