Visual Arts Studio (VAS), BFA

Before being formally admitted to the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) program, candidates must:

  • Pass the Sophomore Portfolio Review (see explanation below).
  • Submit a completed application form.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0, within the major, is required for graduation.

Requirements


Liberal Arts: 47 hours


All majors at Harding are required to complete 53 hours of Liberal Arts studies. The following Liberal Arts  requirements are met within the content of the major:

  • Three hours of the Creative Spirit component are met within the content of the major and counted below. ENG 2010  or ENG 2020  is required to complete the Creative Spirit component.
  • ART 3800   satisfies three hours of the Global Perspective component and is counted below.

Major: 75 Hours


Primary Concentration:15 Hours (Choose one)


 

Remaining Bible/Electives: 6 hours


ART 3750  counted above in the major satisfies the Bible Enrollment requirement in the semester it is taken. See Bible Class Enrollment policy here.  

Total Hours: 128


Note(s): Sophomore Portfolio Review


The sophomore portfolio review is for the art & design student who has completed (including current classes) 15 credit hours of selected core art & design coursework. The review is intended to provide feedback on the student’s artistic growth progress. At the review, we will be assessing: drawing and compositional skills, presentation skills, ability to discuss and exhibit work and the student’s level of knowledge about current professional activity in his or her program area.

Sophomore portfolio review for Visual Arts Studio Majors: Required after the student has completed: ART 1030 ART 1050 ART 1600 ART 2600  and in or completed ART 3040 . A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 in these art and design courses is required to be eligible for participating in the sophomore portfolio review. Passing the sophomore portfolio review is a prerequisite to enrolling in junior level courses.
