The department is responsible for all academic policy, programs, and activities related to academics in the Center for Student Success (CSS). The director of the University Studies Department will report directly to the Provost. The duties and responsibilities of the chair include but are not limited to:
- Supervision of the development, staffing, and scheduling of courses housed in CSS programs (e.g., UNIV, ADVANCE, etc.);
- Academic advising for undecided majors, general studies majors not assigned to a specific college, and other students on an as-needed basis;
- Provision of support to facilitate cooperative education, internship and capstone opportunities for general studies majors;
- Assessment of the effectiveness of CSS courses and programs of study;
- Provision of training faculty involved in academic advising for undeclared majors;
- Serves as a member of the Undergraduate Academic Affairs Committee;
- Works closely with students on academic probation through in-person meetings, classes, and other activities (e.g., action plans, self-assessments).
