Communication MajorsThe expected Program Learning Outcomes for this major are:
- Apply basic numerical and statistical concepts.
- Apply current digital tools and technologies appropriate for communication professions.
- Apply professional principles and work reflecting truth, accuracy, and fairness.
- Conduct research and evaluate information using methods appropriate to communication professions.
- Demonstrate an understanding of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and other diversity issues in relation to mass communications.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the diversity of cultures and peoples as they impact mass communications.
- Demonstrate how to self-evaluate their work in terms of accuracy, fairness, clarity, appropriate style, and grammatical correctness.
- Demonstrate the ability to think critically, creatively, and independently.
- Recount the history and role of professionals & institutions in shaping communications.
- Understand and apply the principles and laws of freedom of speech and press.
- Understand the concepts, theories, and use of images and other multimedia in mass communication.
- Write correctly and clearly in forms and styles appropriate for the communication professions, audiences, and purposes they serve.
