Communication Majors

The expected Program Learning Outcomes for this major are:

  • Apply basic numerical and statistical concepts.
  • Apply current digital tools and technologies appropriate for communication professions.
  • Apply professional principles and work reflecting truth, accuracy, and fairness.
  • Conduct research and evaluate information using methods appropriate to communication professions.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and other diversity issues in relation to mass communications.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the diversity of cultures and peoples as they impact mass communications.
  • Demonstrate how to self-evaluate their work in terms of accuracy, fairness, clarity, appropriate style, and grammatical correctness.
  • Demonstrate the ability to think critically, creatively, and independently.
  • Recount the history and role of professionals & institutions in shaping communications.
  • Understand and apply the principles and laws of freedom of speech and press.
  • Understand the concepts, theories, and use of images and other multimedia in mass communication.
  • Write correctly and clearly in forms and styles appropriate for the communication professions, audiences, and purposes they serve.

Program Learning Outcomes  

Liberal Arts: 50 Hours


All majors at Harding are required to complete 53 hours of Liberal Arts studies. The following Liberal Arts requirements are met within the content of the major:

  • COMM 101   is required and counted below.
