Spanish as a Second Teaching Field

Requirements

Students seeking licensure to teach Spanish must complete 27 hours of the language, including the following:

• SPAN 303 - Advanced Grammar Credit Hours: 3
• SPAN 433 - Advanced Phonetics Credit Hours: 3
• SPAN 452 - Senior Seminar (Licensure) Credit Hours: 0, 2

6 hours in culture, civilization and literature

(a minimum of 3 hours must be culture and civilization)

• SPAN 304 - Civilization and Culture of Peninsular Spain Credit Hours: 3
• SPAN 311 - Latin American Literature Credit Hours: 3
• SPAN 315 - Latin American Civilization Credit Hours: 3
• SPAN 325 - Regional Language and Culture Credit Hours: 3
• SPAN 401 - Peninsular Spanish Literature I Credit Hours: 3
• SPAN 402 - Peninsular Spanish Literature II Credit Hours: 3
• SPAN 435 - Literature of the 20th & 21st Centuries Credit Hours: 3
• SPAN 436 - 19th-20th Century Spanish Drama/Poetry Credit Hours: 3

Licensure Requirements

• FLAN 419 - Foreign Language Teaching Methods and Assessment - Secondary Credit Hours: 3
• FLAN 420 - Foreign Language Teaching Methods and Assessment, K-8 Credit Hours: 2
• RDNG 415 - Interdisciplinary Literacy Credit Hours: 3

Note(s):

At least 9 of the total hours must be upper level.

SPAN 313  is highly recommended.

The official ACTFL Oral Proficiency telephonic interview is required with a target rating of advanced low.
