Coordinator: Lauren Boone, M.A.
Harding University offers a concentrated curriculum for international students whose academic English skills need to develop before they enroll in courses for their academic program. Students admitted into the program are enrolled in 12-14 hours of language work in their first semester. ESL courses are offered to prepare students for entry into college-level coures. These courses are not intended for transfer and do not count in earned hours for graduation. A grade of “C” is required to pass each course. Although international students for whom a TOEFL/IELTS score is not required for admission to the university may take these courses in combination with regular courses in order to improve their English skills, any student lacking a satisfactory score on an English proficiency test will be expected to pass each course and score a 550/72 on the TOEFL (paper/IBT) before exiting the ESL curriculum. A course fee is attached to ESL 099 to cover testing expenses for proficiency exams administered at the beginning and end of the course. Students will begin their liberal arts and academic major courses in the subsequent term after these requirements are met.
Students who are required to pass this course will not be eligible to register for a subsequent semester until the course is passed.
This program is overseen by the Cannon-Clary College of Education. For further information, e-mail esl@harding.edu. |
