NURS 300 - Professional Nursing


An introductory course that provides foundational nursing knowledge, skills and practice interventions. The course incorporates principles from the sciences and humanities and emphasizes entry-level nursing practice based on the nursing process. Content focuses on safe practice using curriculum strands of nursing process, research, critical thinking, communication, leadership, teaching-learning, Christian principles, and global perspectives. A grade of “C” or higher is required. Three lecture hours per week and 6 laboratory or clinical hours per week.

Computer requirement: All students involved in the nursing program must have ready access to a laptop computer and designated software. Specific hardware and software requirements are posted on the Carr College of Nursing website (insert hyperlink). Courses numbered 300 and above require the student to bring the laptop to the class.

Prerequisite(s): Prerequisite: BIOL 249 , BIOL 253 ; MATH 107  with a “B” or higher; NURS 100 , NURS 203 . With prior approval of the prenursing advisor, the student may concurrently enroll in NURS 100, 203 and 300. Submission of all current health, CPR and TB documentation is required.

Credit Hours: 5
