COUN 677 - Legal and Ethical Issues in Counseling


This course equips professional counselors with knowledge about the legal environment and ethical issues surrounding school and clinical settings. It introduces the American legal system and case law, statutes, and regulations with special attention given to applications of laws and regulations. Following standards of ACA and ASCA, this course provides opportunities for students to explore professional issues through cases, simulations and hypotheticals using a multidisciplinary team approach incorporating ethical teachings of the Bible. A focus on ethical decision making from a Christian and professional perspective is emphasized.

Prerequisite(s): Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Master of Science in Professional Counseling: Clinical and School or the Educational Specialist in Professional Counseling: Clinical and School program or permission of the director.
